Printmaking artist and educator

Ani is a printmaking artist and educator. She also teaches printmaking, Art History, Art Appreciation, and 2D Design at AB Tech Community College, Warren Wilson College, and UNC Asheville.
Ani Volkan received her MFA in Printmaking and has taught with after-school arts programs, museums, universities, and non-profits. Her work combines storytelling with her Armenian heritage, and incorporates old family photographs, textiles, and everything printmaking. She helped open a community print shop in Kansas City MO, called Print League KC and was its director from 2017-2019. Then, she also received a 2018-2019 Innovation Grant from ArtsKC to investigate better inclusivity in community spaces. In July 2020, she was awarded a Craft Futures Fund grant to combine her love of cooking and craft to create a digital craft resource hub. Recently, she received a NC Artist Support Grant to research Armenian folklore and fairytales in Los Angeles CA. She is the Treasurer of the Mid America Print Council executive board 2022-2024, and resides in Asheville NC with the goal of bringing a bit of Print League KC to the Blue Ridge Mountains by opening another community print shop.
